Title: Statistical properties of groups
Given a family of objects, it is natural to ask what a typical one looks
like. This kind of questions can be usually made precise using
randomised models, e.g. random walks. I will give a precise statement
along the lines that given a group acting "nicely" on a hyperbolic
space, a typical element acts loxodromically. One can deduce that, for
example, rank one elements are generic in CAT(0) groups and
pseudo-Anosovs are generic in mapping class groups. I will discuss
results about typical loops and typical triangles.
You are cordially invited!
