PLEASE NOTE: THIS TUESDAY THE TALK WILL BE AT 12:30 Technion, IEM faculty - Seminar in Probability and Stochastic Processes Speaker: Shannon Star, University of Rochester Title: The Mallows measure on permutations Date: 15/05/2012 Time: 12:30 Place: Hashmal-861 Abstract: The Mallows measure on Sn may be viewed as a Gibbs measure for a mean-field Hamiltonian counting the number of inversions: i<j such that pi_i > pi_j. Taking this approach and using mean-field theory of classical spin systems, we have been able to determine a number of limiting results, if one uses the true mean-field scaling for the exponential weight parameter beta.
