Department of Mathematics University of Haifa SPECIAL Topology and Geometry Seminar Speaker: Prof. Vladimir Sharafutdinov Sobolev Institute of Mathematics, Novosibirsk Title: Local audibility of a hyperbolic metric Date: Tuesday, December 27, 2011 Place: Room 614 of the Science & Education Building, Univ. of Haifa Time: 16:10 ====> NOTE special time and day !! <===== Abstract A compact Riemannian manifold (M,g) is said to be locally audible if the following statement holds for every metric g' on M which is sufficiently close to g: if the metrics g and g' are isospectral then they are isometric. We prove local audibility of a compact locally symmetric Riemannian manifold of negative sectional curvature. Along with the proof, I will try to give you some flavor of spectral geometry. --------------------------------------------------------- Technion Math Net-2 (TECHMATH2) Editor: Michael Cwikel <techm@math.technion.ac.il> Announcement from: David Blanc <blanc@math.haifa.ac.il>
