BEN GURION UNIVERSITY OF THE NEGEV DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS ================================== Operator and System Theory Seminar ================================== SPEAKER: Daniel Markiewicz , BGU TITLE: Recent developments in the classification of semigroups of endormophisms of B(H) DATE: Monday, December 5, 2011 PLACE: Room -101, Mathematics Building, BGU TIME: 14:10 ABSTRACT: This will be a survey talk in spirit, and I will not assume much more than familiarity with the algebra B(H) of bounded operators on a separable Hilbert space H. I will give an overview of the classification problem of semigroups of endomorphisms of B(H), and then I will present recent developments obtained in joint work with Christopher Jankowski and Robert T. Powers. Specifically, I will talk about the recent computation of the gauge group invariant in some examples and the discovery of an abundance of prime semigroups, i.e., semigroups which cannot be decomposed into non-trivial tensor products.
