Technion Mathematics Colloquium Speaker: Oren Ben-Bassat (Haifa University) Title: The space of vector bundles on curves and surfaces Time: Monday, November 28, 3:30 pm Place: Amado 232, Technion Homepage: <http://www.technion.ac.il/~yehuday/colloquium/colloq.html> Abstract: Given an algebraic variety X, we can ask what the "space" of vector bundles on X looks like. What are its geometric and topological properties? How can it deform? How do these properties reflect similar properties of the original variety X? Also, why did I write the word space in quotation marks? Much is known when X is one dimensional (so the complex points are a Riemann surface) and I will summarize some of the history here. The case of two dimensions is already filled with mystery. I will discuss some work motivated towards understanding the two dimensional case. --------------------------------------------------------- Technion Math.
