TEL AVIV UNIVERSITY - COLLOQUIUM - Hello everyone, The next colloquium talk will be held on Monday, 4/4/2011, 12:15, Schreiber 006, Tel Aviv University. The speaker is Aviv Censor (Tel Aviv University) and the title of his talk is Towards Topological Groupoidification The abstract is given below. Tea and coffee at 12:00, same room. Hope to see you there. For information about future colloquiua, see <http://www.math.tau.ac.il/~klartagb/colloq_2010.html> You are all welcome to suggest colloquium speakers, especially for the next academic year. (Vladimir Rokhlin, who was supposed to give the lecture on April 4, cancelled his visit to Israel). Yours, Bo'az ------------------------- Abstract: Groupoidification, a form of categorification, was introduced by John Baez, James Dolan and Todd Trimble. It has been successfully applied to several structures, which include Feynman Diagrams, Hecke Algebras and Hall Algebras. In order to expand the scope of groupoidification and its inverse process of degroupoidification, we take first steps in extending the theory from the discrete setting to the realm of topology, measure theory and analysis. In particular, we describe how to generalize two notions which play key roles in the theory: groupoid cardinality and the weak-pullback construction. This is a joint project with Daniele Grandini. The talk will be suited for a general mathematical audience, prior acquaintance with groupoids will not be assumed. --------------------------------------------------------- Technion Math Net-2 (TECHMATH2) Editor: Michael Cwikel <techm@math.technion.ac.il> Announcement from: Bo'az Klartag <klartagb@post.tau.ac.il>
