Technion Mathematics Colloquium TWO COLLOQUIUM TALKS ON MONDAY 3/1/2011. First talk: Title: New approach to the entropy theory of dynamical systems Speaker: Anatoly Vershik (St.Petersburg State University) Time: Monday January 3 at 3:30 p.m. Amado 232 Abstract: The generalization of the Kolmogorov-Sinai-Rokhlin theory is theory of dynamics of the measurable metrics. This gives a spectra of possible entropy type invariants which called â^À^Ýscaling entropyâ^À^Ý. This is a new theory and there are applications to the automorphisms with discrete spectrum and to the invariants of the filtration. Light refreshments will be served at 3:00 pm at the faculty lounge on the 8th floor. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Technion Mathematics Special Colloquium Title: Productsets of large sets in amenable groups Speaker: Alexander Fish (University of Wisconsin) Abstract We will review recent developments in the study of products of sets of positive upper Banach density in countable amenable groups. The methods are of dynamical origin and Kronecker factor of an apropriate ergodic Î^Ó-system (where Î^Ó is the underlying amenable group) will play a crucial role. The talk is based on a joint work with M.Bjorklund (ETH-Zurich). Monday January 3 4:30 p.m. Amado 232 Light refreshments will be served at 3:00 pm at the faculty lounge on the 8th floor. --------------------------------------------------------- Technion Math.
