BEN GURION UNIVERSITY OF THE NEGEV DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS ================================== Operator and System Theory Seminar ================================== SPEAKER: Dmitry Kerner, University of Toronto TITLE: On local decomposability of matrix functions DATE: Monday, January 3, 2011 PLACE: Room -101, Mathematics Building, BGU TIME: 14:10 ABSTRACT: Consider a matrix whose entries are analytic or formal series in several variables. When is the matrix two-sided equivalent to a block diagonal or at least to an upper-block-triangular? An immediate necessary condition is reducibility of the determinant, but this is far from being sufficient. Using the relation to determinantal representations we formulate various necessary and sufficient conditions.
