Title: Splitting fields of characteristic polynomials of random
elements in arithmetic groups
I will review a recent result of Jouve Kowalski and Zywina
 <(http://arxiv.org/abs/1008.3662).> In this paper they give a
description of a "generic" Galois group of a random element in an
arithmetic subgroup A of connected linear group G defined over a field
k. They show that given a random walk on the Cayley graph of A the
probability that the Galois group is  (at least in the reductive,
split case)  isomorphic to the Weyl group of G.
