Title:
Growth in associative and Lie algebras
Abstract:
The talk is devoted to possibilities in growth functions of associative and
Lie algebras. Let $A$ be an (associative, Lie) algebra with generators
$a_1, \dots, a_n$. The growth function $V_A(n)$ is dimension of vector
space generated by generators products of length $\le n$.
For example, it is well known that if $\lim\ln(V_L(n)/n)=0$, then
$\lim\ln(V_{U(L)}(n)/n)=0$, $U(L)$ is the universal enveloping algebra.
However, it is not known that $\lim\ln(V_L(n)/n)$ exists, even if the
lower limit is zero!
We also discuss questions for the finitely presented case.
