This is an OLD (2000/1) version of my Hedva 2m/2mm page

Differential and integral calculus 2-M-M = ``HEDVA 2-M-M''. Information for Students

22.2.01 Congratulations! Everyone did well on the last bachan with marks in the nineties. You can contact me individually for exact details, to see and understand your (small) mistakes, and to know your final marks for the whole semester.
In case anyone is interested, I have written some notes about a topic in vector calculus which is an analogue of the theory of conservative fields. Instead of looking at (conservative or "irrotational") fields which satisfy curl F =0, we look at "solenoidal" fields, i.e. ones which satisfy div F = 0. Instead of being able (sometimes) to show that F = grad f for some f, we are able to show (sometimes) that F= curl A for some other vector field A. Most of this material is beyond what I would expect Hedva 2m(m) students to know, but it does include some exercises related to things they are supposed to know. A preliminary version (5 pages of postscript file in English) of these notes is here.
.
When will we have the third and final test=bakhan? Any time that suits you all is fine for me. If I do not receive any alternative suggestions from you then we will have the test on Feb. 13 at 16:30. WE WILL MEET IN ROOM 919 OF THE AMADO BUILDING.
BHATZLAKHA!!
.
8.2.01 Shalom! To get a document (in English, 7 pages) which recalls and gives some more details about what was said in class about using second derivatives to determine the nature of critical points of a function of two variables please click here.
.
24.12.00 Hanuka Sameakh! To get a multipurpose document please click here. This document contains (preliminary, but probably close to final versions of) the second and third set of exercises for Hedva 2mm. It also contains a final section with some extra (non compulsory) topics which I hope you will have time to enjoy.
.
I have finished marking the examinations from December 5. I invite each student to meet with me to look at his booklet and see if he has any questions about it.
.
I have written some notes (18 pages in English) describing the theory behind Riemann integrals, including double and triple integrals. These notes are at a higher level than is required for this course. But you may find them helpful. They are available here.
.
In response to your requests, the test based on the first set of exercises will be held on Tuesday, 5.12.2000 at 16:30 IN ROOM 502 ULMANN BUILDING. The final version of those exercises (dated 15.11.2000) is here. . (The only essential difference between this version and the one dated 14.11.2000 is that part Gimel of Question 24 has been marked with an asterisk (=star). and so it is added to those exercises which will not be on the test.) There is some (NOW very very very small) possibility that, depending on how much material we have covered before 1.12.00, a small number of the exercises in this set may be transferred to the second set and second test. If necessary this will be announced later.
.
3.12.00 TODAY I will give an extra class to provide revision and answer your questions before the test on Tuesday. The time you chose for this is 16:30 (if I remember correctly). We will meet in Room 204 of the Ullman Building. I have also prepared a file (here) which contains a number of questions which I strongly recommend looking at. Some of these are on topics which have not yet been covered in lectures, so of course you can wait till later for them. Others are good preparation for the general Hedva 2m Bachan which will be quite soon.
.
22.11.2000 I have written the material from the lecture about Schwartz' theorem (equality of mixed derivatives f''_{xy}=f''_{yx} ) and approximating derivatives by differences (e.g. when working on a computer). It is in ENGLISH. (A bit more than 3 pages.) You can find it here .
.
21.11.2000 Thank you very much Michael Rabinovich for pointing out that the lines L1 and L2 in the Final! version of 5BET actually intersect. This makes the exercise less interesting and useful than I intended. So that everyone can learn all the things that they are supposed to learn from it, let me ask you please to look at an "ULTRA-final" version of this exercise. In the definition of the second line L2 please change x=3 to x=4. (This change has been made in the file on this site.)
.
19.11.2000 For a proof of the chain rule (klal hasharsheret) for functions of two variables, including remarks about using Heine's theorem in this proof see here.
.
14.11.2000 ROOM CHANGE for Alexander's class. Wednesdays 10:30-12:30 now in Ulmann 706.
.
To see a ``flow diagram'' (IN ENGLISH) for the process of calculating limits of functions of several variables click here (15:30 This is now a slightly revised version.)
.
6.11.2000 A file giving the exact definitions of different kinds of limits of functions of several variables with some explanations is here . There is also a page (in ENGLISH) with the proof of the Bolzano-Weierstrass Theorem in n dimensional Euclidean space here .
.
30.10.2000 REMINDER: ROOM CHANGE ON TUESDAYS. As was announced yesterday, on Tuesdays our Hedva 2M-M class will meet in Classroom 5 in the Taub Computer Science Building.
.
29.10.2000 The syllabus being used this term for Hedva 2M (and also very very close to what will be taught in Hedva 2M-M) is here .
.
26.10.2000 FOR HEDVA2-M-M STUDENTS: You can now get the FINAL VERSION of our first set of exercises. Click the appropriate place near the top of this page. (Dated 15.11.2000.) It is a postscript file (Hebrew). Some of the questions may not appear in our final official version of this set of exercises. Others are marked with a STAR which means we will not put them on the test which will be given for these exercises. But I promise you that solving these other problems will improve your understanding of this material. Some of the problems need things that we have not yet studied in the lectures. But of course the test will be given only after those things have been discussed in the lectures and tirgul.
==============================================
My old Hedva2M and Hedva 2MM webpage from the previous millenium is here. . Many things there can still be useful now. These include old examinations and solutions, and sets of problems.
.

Shahar Mendelson and I are writing a new version of my old hoveret, ``Matematica 2Chet''. It is intended to be a text book for Hedva 2m and Hedva 2mm. Part of it has already been typed. See below to download a very preliminary version of part of it. If you are interested in a student job to continue the work of typing it see here.
Copies of the original handwritten hoveret can be found in several Technion libraries. If there is a demand, we may be able to photocopy a few more versions of it for those libraries.

A very preliminary version of PART of the new hoveret being written jointly with Shahar Mendelson is now available here as a postscript file. WARNING: It has NOT yet been carefully proof read, Please let me know if you see misprints. IT IS BIG (ABOUT 2 MB) AND IS ABOUT 45 PAGES, WITH SOME 29 PICTURES. Thanks to David Nashtir for his work so far on this project! Get it here .
